program designed to provide an opportunity to Montreal city youth of all
backgrounds, to develop team spirit, commitment, discipline, as well as
athletic/basketball abilities at a high competitive level within a safe
and structured environment.
This initiative was created in spring 2002 by Corporal Alain Babineau of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) with the support of the Mounted Police Foundation and several local sports organizations. The project's goal is to develop good players while helping them to become good people.
The
'Montreal Ballers' teams; The BISONS are comprised of kids
ages 12 to 18 from the multi-cultural inner city boroughs of Montreal. Between
April and September, The 'BISONS' play in tournaments in U.S and Canadian
cities. In addition, the teams practice twice a week at the RCMP HQ in Montreal.
During the summer, the 'Montreal Ballers' host the 'D.E.A.L' ( Drug awareness, Education, and Life Choices) basketball tournament. Teams from Quebec, Ontario and the U.S participate in the tournament which features the RCMP C Division Drug Awareness section as well as other life-skills/ social programs.
13U
Bisons beat Ottawa Celtics twice on their turf.
The Bisons went to Ottawa and got the job done twice. In the first game
Jeffery Doret was the MVP as he was great at both end of the floor. And
when he and Jamael Babineau got hurt at the end of the game, Pablo Mariz,
Hamza Chaudry and the rest of the team stepped up to clinch the win.
In their second game the Bisons took an early 17 point lead as Jamael Babineau and Olivier Shima hit from long range while alex Ademokoya showed them how to grab boards at both ends. The Celtics cameback but the Bisons hung on to their win. Alex Ademokoya was the MVP of this game.
